TL;DR: Pre-order the leatherbound Book of Common Prayer at St. Aldhelm’s!
In April of this year, a major update was announced of our upcoming publications. And by the grace of God, we have since been blessed immensely. Unfortunately, this has shifted the timeline a bit. Here is an updated timeline for our publications, with some very good news!
State of Publications
Saint Botolph’s Missal
The Saint Botolph’s Missal has experienced a sort of half-release. While the pew edition is currently available and for sale, the Altar Edition has been halted. While we are sad to further delay the Missal, it is due to our recent collaboration with St. Aldhelm’s Press, which has been generous in its support of our mission. They expressed a desire to help fund a run of altar editions (as opposed to our previous model of charging for fresh editions one at a time, which is more costly per book but what our financial situation necessitated). In the near future (no set date), the altar edition will be available for sale. Please feel free to access the Missal on GitHub.
The Second Edition of the BCP
The chief benefit of our collaboration with St. Aldhelm’s Press is in the upcoming release of the Second Edition of the 2025 Proposed Book of Common Prayer! We have taken to heart all of the feedback we received from the First Edition being used both by laymen and clergy, at home and in church. You can see the Second Edition on GitHub, containing all the notes regarding what was revised in this edition. While we are happy to see these revisions, we are even more at peace that drastic changes were not necessary.
You pre-order the Second Edition on St. Aldhelm’s website. This is a leather-bound, gilded, smyth-sewn edition. We are very much impressed with the test copy we received, and we are excited for everyone else to be able to benefit from it!
Talking with St. Aldhelm’s, the copies should be printed and delivered to the press in one month. Once we have the copies, we will send them out as quickly as possible, with a guaranteed delivery date of December 2026 (hopefully sooner).
Saint Botolph’s Breviary
At Apologia Anglicana, we have been working tirelessly on a Breviary based on the 2025 Proposed Book of Common Prayer. This provides everything from the BCP for the Daily Office, much like our Office Book. However, it also supplies the antiphons, Hymns, and Versicles for a full recitation of the Office. Based on the Second Edition, we are confident it will be a welcome edition to your Daily Office.
It will be a hardcover, print-on-demand publication, unlike the Second Edition of the BCP. The expected release date is the Feast of St. Gorazde of Prague. Please feel free to look through it on the GitHub.
Prayer Book Hymnal
The Prayer Book Hymnal has very much been on our minds and hearts. We have waiting for the completion of the Second Edition of the BCP as well as the Breviary before turning our attention to the Hymnal. The First Edition was very much designed for reader’s chapels, providing just the essential devotional hymns and full propers for most Days.
Learning from how it has been used, the Second Edition will feature a broader selection of Devotional Hymns. The Mass propers (save the Collect) will be excised, allowing room for not only more hymns but also a full Lenten cycle, as well as more Office settings.
It will be a hardcover, print-on-demand publication. We hoped for a Q4 2026 publication date, but we now plan on a Q1 2027 expected release date.
